The Transforming Power of Purpose

Did you ever see the film Silver Linings Playbook? I enjoyed its quirky characters and colorful storylines. But I was most struck by its message about the transforming power of having a purpose beyond yourself.

Bradley Cooper plays Pat, a man who returns home to live with his parents after 8 months of living in a mental health facility. Once home, he spends most of his time obsessing over his ex-wife and holed up in his room. But, then, his friend Tiffany asks him to dance with her in a competition. At first, he is simply going through the motions.

But, soon, he's actually enjoying the dancing and the joy it brings to Tiffany. He's learning and feeling a real sense of purpose as they prepare for the competition. His whole outlook changes in the process.
